How to prepare your static for sale

Selling a used static caravan is a unique experience. This is mainly true due to the logistics, as you can not just drive it or ship it to its new owner. Essentially selling a static caravan is about making the process for the buyer as simple as possible & preparing it physically and cosmetically. Follow our simple guide or get in touch if you have any questions or if you want to sell your caravan to our dealership.

What to think about before starting the sales process

Can it be removed easily?

Before you list your caravan for sale, try to make a plan for moving it, use when you bought it as an example, was it a tricky installation? has the static been modified in any way? has the route you originally took changed in any way? These things need to be considered for the perspective of the buyer or their transport company. You may have the best static caravan in the UK but if it needs a complex removal strategy then you will struggle to sell it.

Are you planning on making a private sale?

Selling your caravan to a private buyer is usually the best way to maximise any sale returns however when selling privately you should expect to be asked to assist with the extraction process. The best way to prepare is to cover the cost of the de-siting of the caravan and having it loaded to the nearest access road so that your buyer or their transport company can simply reverse to the unit and drive away. It is best to have some local firms give you a rough estimate for this kind of work before beginning the sale.

Have you removed all your items?

Due to the size of static caravans, any personal items, clutter or un-fixed pieces of furniture must be removed. This gives the feeling of more space and avoids any suspicions of issues that could be hidden behind your items. You should declutter the externals of the caravan as well to show the buyer that care has been taken of the outside too.

Has your static been customised?

Everybody has a different idea of what is stylish and tasteful so it is best to take down any personal touches you have put up over the time of your ownership. Take a look at each customisation around the static and think will this attract a buyer or will this be off-putting? Basically, try and get your caravan back to its original factory state so the widest selection of buyers will be interested.

Have you cleaned your static?

Your caravan should be cleaned for sale, meaning all the smaller harder to reach areas that would normally be missed on a day to day basis need to be cleaned because most buyers will inspect all areas around the static. In some cases, it is beneficial to pay a professional cleaning company to attend the property and do a deep clean this is especially a good idea if you do not have the time to do this yourself, and as always remember the outside.

Does it depend on the type of static?

Regardless of whether you’re selling a twin, single, 2 room or 3 room, the process is the same. In some cases, it may be worth changing how the caravan looks internally depending on what type of buyers you are targetting if you are selling it to be a holiday home then making it look a little more cosy and homely is a good idea but if you are selling for commercial use then it’s less important for it being livable and more focus on points such as clean and new bathrooms and easy access kitchens.
